冬日漫画社 原动!发作

About the organization: DBG
Design By Guangzhou, a.k.a DBG, is a young Guangzhou based creative community founded by a group of versatile artists. With respect to originality and creativity, the DBG crew aspires to build a platform to bring together creatives from different realms of art and cultures. Past and on-going projects with various artists and local brands involved music, graphic design, video art, photography, figure design, T-shirt production, prototype design, and all forms of fun art. Working with and for other artists has been the main focus in their attempt to promote the DBG spirit. So far DBG has developed a product line featuring Monster Kar, a pointy but friendly character. Painfully shy as Kar is, the monster shares one thing in common with DBG: they are both warm inside with a heart.

About the project: GZOP
GZOP, as much as it sounds like a secret code, simply stands for GuangZhou Origininal Playground. Set up inside an apartment on 29th floor, the exhibition showcases original brands seldom seen in the market. On display are works by adFunture, BenShop, +D team, Rice Magazine, LABoratory, Spring Garden, Fire Panda, No. 223, DBG, Nar, Pigstyle, etc. From graffiti pieces to featured idea books, funky clothing to monster beans, random photos to mosaic candle holder, individual artists and independent brands all found places for their brainchild at 2906 Gallery.
As the exhibition continues until end of Jun., a series of cultural events is held approximately once a week. GZOP's latest guest is the respected Storm-E Comic Workshop. The next event would be held in a pub on Shuiyin RD, where NOTCH07 will be presenting a documentary on Icelandic Music, Screaming Masterpiece, as a warm-up for the upcoming NOTCH07 events in China this Oct. For more information, please check out our blog for news and seat reservation.

About today's event: Artists' Talk
Today's speech at GZOP by Bee Wong from Storm-E Ltd. started with a time line of the comic company's glory and struggles, and later extended to topics as broad as the future of China's creative industry. Bee Wong and his crew discussed the realistic problems they faced and possible solutions with the fans and audience. They also announced the decision to turn to an e-zine soon to be published.
